BY-LAWS

OF

IOWA AMATEUR MEN'S FAST-PITCH SOFTBALL HALL OF FAME

January 1, 2006

 

Section I.

Name and Jurisdiction

 

The organization shall be known as the "IOWA AMATEUR MEN'S FAST-PITCH SOFTBALL HALL OF FAME". It is to be a non-profit organization, operating on a calendar year basis, sanctioned by the AMATEUR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION.

 

Section II.

Object

 

The purpose of the organization is to promote and preserve the game of fast-pitch softball in the State of Iowa, and honor worthy fast-pitch achievement and participation via membership into the Iowa Amateur Men's Fast-Pitch Softball Hall of Fame.

 

Section III.

Location and Meetings

 

The location of the organization will be a site determined by a Hall of Fame committee.  All books and records will be maintained by the Hall of Fame Chairman. 

 

Meetings will be held at a time and place determined at the previous meeting.  Special meetings may be called at the discretion of the Chairman and Officers.  Members will be notified at least ten (10) days prior to the meeting. 

 

The President, or in his absence any officer present will preside.  Order of business will be: call to order, roll call, reading of last meeting minutes with any corrections, if any, and acceptance, secretary's report, treasurer's report, committee reports, unfinished business, new business, miscellaneous comments, and adjournment.  A majority of affirmative votes by members present shall be sufficient to pass any measure.

 

Section IV.

Chairman

 

The Chairman of the Iowa Amateur Men's Fast-Pitch Softball Hall of Fame shall be appointed by the Iowa State Softball Commissioner in cooperation with the officers of the Hall of Fame.

 

Section V.

Officers

 

Officers will be elected at a meeting of the general membership of the Hall of Fame. Election will be by majority vote of the members present at the meeting.

 

Officers to be elected are, President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.  It shall be the duty of the officers to carry on the business of the organization, subject to any directives provided by the Amateur Softball Association, performing tasks normally associated with such positions including the disposition of any funds or assets.

 

Term of office shall be for one year unless re-elected.  Election of officers for the following year will be held during the last meeting of the calendar year.  If an officer is unable or unwilling to serve the complete term for which he was elected or appointed, a replacement shall be appointed for the remainder of the term by a majority vote of the other officers and the chairman of the Hall of Fame.

 

Officers will serve without compensation.

 

Section VI.

Membership

 

1.         Nomination - any interested party may nominate a person for membership consideration.  A written resume fully and authentically outlining the nominees Iowa fast-pitch softball accomplishments and background must be presented by the nominator, or a member of the Hall of Fame. All nominations must be passed on to the "Selection Committee" for the nominee to be considered

 

2.         Eligibility for membership - to be an eligible candidate for membership consideration the nominee must have played, managed, sponsored or umpired in an organized fast pitch league in the State of Iowa for at least seven (7) years and have ceased playing in major competition for at least three (3) years or have reached his 50th birthday.

 

Section VII.

Selection Committee

 

A selection committee of 12 members will be appointed by the Chairman and President of the Iowa Amateur Men's Fast-Pitch Softball Hall of Fame.  The term of each member appointed will be for a period of three (3) years.  Each year the chairman and president will appoint new members to replace those whose term has expired:

 

The terms of the initial selection committee are:

5 members with 3 year terms

4 members with 2 year terms

3 members with a 1 year term

 

The purpose of the selection committee will be to secure and/or review the resumes of nominees submitted for membership consideration and select those worthy of presentation to the general membership for acceptance into the Iowa Amateur Men's Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame. Acceptance will be determined by the members in attendance at the meeting.

 

Each member present will be allowed to vote for each nominee.  Each nominee receiving 60% of the votes of members in attendance will be inducted.

 

Nominees not elected will be reconsidered for five (5) consecutive years by the selection committee. A candidate may be re-nominated annually.

 

Inductees will be notified by the President.  Induction will take place at a site determined by a central geographical location of selected inductees.

 

Members of the Iowa Amateur Men's Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame are required to provide for future communications by providing US Mail addresses, Email address, and telephone number(s) for continued contact.

 

Section VIII.

Funds

 

The funds of the organization, if any, shall be deposited as the officers may direct.  No dividends or pecuniary profits shall be declared or paid to any member.

 

Upon dissolution of the Iowa Amateur Men's Fast-Pitch Softball Hall of Fame organization any assets remaining after payment in full of all debts and obligations shall be distributed to the Amateur Softball Association or its successor.

 

Section IX

Amendments

 

Future proposed amendments and changes to these by-laws must be submitted in writing and be approved by a majority vote of the members present at two (2) consecutive meetings.

 

Changes and amendments will become effective at the beginning of the next calendar year.
